Position: Homeschool Group Kindergarten Teacher

Dates: Starting September 2018 with some hours developing curriculum in the Summer

Hours:  M-Th Part-time (8am to about 12:30pm), possibly some Fridays and staff-parent planning meetings (frequency TBD)

Compensation:  weekly salary, equivalent to hourly range of $20-$25/hr DOE



About the Position:

We are looking for a the second of two part-time teachers to share duties for an ecologically-based progressive homeschool group! This candidate will teach Math and ELA to students, and preferably Spanish language as well.


The other teacher will be teaching ecology, gardening, visual art, cooking, social justice and science.  While guests will share music, movement, special topics and more. Fridays are spent as Forest Days in local regional parks.  Depending on this candidate’s background, there are ample opportunities to also expand into other topics beyond Math, ELA and Spanish.  The 2 teachers as well as the group of parents will be collaborating consistently to co-create the direction of curriculum.


School Mission:

To provide a foundational knowledge-base for a cohort of 8 children—and in tandem a cohort of 8 families—in a nurturing urban farm setting with a focus on developing critical reasoning, emotional, creative and earth-relational skills from decolonizing perspectives while cultivating innate curiosity to promote life-long learning, stewardship and balanced community engagement in order to prepare the children for the challenges they will face in 20 years.

Required Qualifications:


  • At least 1 year (strong preference for more) working with Kindergarten age students in educational and instructional settings.

  • Experience with and ability to develop age-appropriate and creative curriculum in the areas of Math and English Language Arts, with strong preference also for Spanish Language.

  • Well versed in and committed to principles of ecology and social justice.

  • Ability to keep students focused and engaged on topic, while exercising flexibility to adjust activities and pace according to the group’s flow and individual student’s learning style.

  • Kindness, compassion and loving care for all students’ well-being and needs.

  • Ability of foster and grow each student’s autonomy while showing how we’re all connected to one another.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate smoothly with the other teacher, guest instructors/speakers and parents, understanding that we are creating a community together.

  • Experience with helping to launch a new program/project off the ground and can roll with the sometimes ambiguity and not-yet-formedness that comes with it, and excited to forge new pathways.


Desired Qualifications:


  • Familiar with principles of permaculture, regenerative earth healing and whole systems thinking.

  • Experience with alternative education and systems of thinking, including but not limited to Montessori, Reggio and Waldorf.

  • Interested in and able to work a few of the Friday Forest Days.

  • We hope that this year will be successful, in which case the school group will move on together to 1st grade using a similar format.  Ideal candidate should be open to the possibility of moving on as the students’ 1st grade teacher.
